Madea’s Great Crossover
Madea has been the belly shaking, gut wrenching, gun toting grandmother in the comedy series Madea’s family. This character was develpoded by a unemployed and homeless dreamer: Tyler Perry. The Madea series started as stage plays which sold out and caused extended days to be added. This caught the attention of Lion Gate who talked Tyler into turning his popular plays into motion pictures. The black audience too familair with Madea from the plays lined the movie theathers creating long lines with waits that extended to the next available show times for Tyler Perry’s Movies.
Tyler some of the great artist past, present and future understand that longevity stems from supplying a product that appeals to all races not just Africian Americans. Tyler’s introduction to the mainstream could come with the addition of funnyman Eugene Levy a Canadian actor who has a great following from being the only actor that appeared in all eight of the american pies movies.
Many may call it a sellout but Tyler as I see it you are a great marketing person. The supply is only value if there is a demand. So, keep being a sell-out…by selling out the venues and movie theathers.
